Holding 250 acres of land, it's the underground that Timpanogos Cave National Monument is famous for. The cave system that opens up at the park includes many amazing natural formations and cave structures, including three large accessible rooms: the Hansen Cave, the Middle Cave and the Timpanogos Cave. Guided tours let visitors travel back into the caves, but to reach them first requires a 1.5-mile hike up to the entrance; a hike which has a 1,000-foot elevation gain but rewards the trip with amazing views of American Fork Canyon. The park itself sits within Uinta National Forest, about 9 miles by car from the town of American Fork.
Open daily May - Oct. Cave tour times vary, check website for details. Caves closed Nov - Apr.
American Fork Canyon entry fee (required): 7-day pass $12; 3-day pass $6. Cave tours: Adults $7; Children (6-15) $5; Children (3-5) $3; Children 2 and under are free.
